Mams Mall was officially opened today in Mahube, Mamelodi East.

Workers started preparing for the opening and operation of the shops on Tuesday. “It was hard but exciting when we started preparing on Tuesday, we had a lot of stock to take in and pack and we managed”, said Patience Bethula, one of the workers in Mr Price.

Most of the shoppers around the area looked very happy to be in the mall, lot of them were there to shop, some in the restaurants, and some were even there for movies. There was a lot of entertainment for the kids at the play area as well as the hall way.

These includes face painting, free balloons, free hats, music and a magician to entertain the crowd. Free hats were mostly given to shoppers who spent R 200 and more.
I’m really happy about the mall, they brought us everything we needed, we are not struggling with transport it’s just a walking distance to get here”, said Jane Magoshi from Lusaka.

Her friend who was there to shop also said that they have seen most of the shops and they have everything anyone would want to buy” said Maria Mahlobogoane. At the time, the security confirmed that there was no crime or violence reported, except for the protest outside the mall which did not affect anyone inside the mall that time.

“I’ve started working today, it’s exciting, the crowd is ok and it doesn’t bother me at all”, said one of the security guards in the mall, Ntsako Hlongwane. She added that it was challenging to get a job but she managed to get thought as she took a lot of effort to it. It is not yet known how many stores are built, how many people are expected to work and how many jobs opportunities available for more people to apply.
