Sam Junior Mbatha is a Social Media Marketer, content creator, Entertainment & Corporate Master of Ceremonies at the North West University. He is also a Final Year student in Bachelor of Arts in Communications.

We had a chat with him about Social media marketing and his journey at NWU.

1. Why did you choose to study Bachelor of Arts in Communications?

I initially wanted to study Journalism @Official_TUT but opted for a Degree in Communications which enabled me to doubled major. I therefore decided to enroll with  @theNWU. I've always being passionate about anything relating to Media studies.

2. How long have you been working as  social media marketer at  @theNWU?

It's been 3 years now. I started in my 1st Year & I'm extremely grateful to be doing what I'm doing. @theNWU has afforded me with plenty of opportunities - One of them that stands out is  Heading the @NWUSolarCar Social Media Campaign at the @WorldSolarChlg in Australia.

3. What is your understanding of social media marketing?

Social Media Marketing is all about creating & sharing content online. It bridges the gap between you & the public online. It provides you with the platform of listening & ultimately creates an opportunity to engage with people and to discover what is influencing your audiences.

4. Since you are a social media promoter do you just  put everything about you  online? If not how do you then decide what not/to share with your followers?

No - I'm deliberate & intentional with what I share online. My online presence is strictly work , brand building and some of the things I'm passionate about. It's simple - @EmmaSadleir always says "If you wouldn't put it on a billboard don't put it online".

5. What distinguishes you from other social media marketers?

It's not a job , It's a Lifestyle!!

6. What do you like to wear when you feel like not giving an ish & no one’s looking?

As weird as it may sound - I love being naked or in my boxers when I'm alone or in my own space. I love being free. 😂

7. How do you deal with criticism on social media?

I always create space and time to think of an appropriate response or not respond at all sometimes. The trick is to stay calm. You may end up losing the respect of your wider audience and harm your reputation. Ignore and keep it moving.

8. What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a social media marketer?

Go for it. It's an easy space to occupy and penetrate. Everyone is a digital native and spends plenty of time online. Social Media Marketing is the future. You literally earn by doing the bare minimum. Just find your nichè.

9. Where do you see yourself in the next five years from now?

Definitely having a career with a Global footprint and impact. Anything with "Global & International " put my name to it.
