Cape Town City welcomes new coach Benny McCarthy

Former European football heavyweight Benni McCarthy is to take over from Eric Tinkler as head coach as announced by Cape Town City Chairman John Comitis at a press conference held on Tuesday.

He has signed a 3-year contract with the team as he is now to begin preparing for the 2017/18 football season.

Benni has had his time in the spotlight with a career overseas and locally, playing for teams such as West Ham United, BlackBurn Rovers, Orlando Pirates, Bafana Bafana, Celta Vigo and FC Porto and has played in leagues such as UEFA Champions League and Portuguese Liga to name a few. He remains the only South African player to have ever won the UEFA Champion. This was during 2004 at FC Porto when Jose Mourinho was the coach.

Benni McCarthy announced on the 24th January 2017 that he received a UEFA A Diploma on coaching from the Irish Football Association.
