Baxter Leads Bafana Bafana to victory

New Bafana Bafana Coach Stuart Baxter led his team to a 2-0 victory in the AFCON 2019 qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Uyo, Nigeria. With only 44% ball possession and 3 shots on goal South Africa was able to solidify their 2nd place spot on the group E table right behind Libya who beat Seychelles 5-1 on friday.

With the first half led by South Africa, they still found themselves under pressure in the 21st minute when Etebo of Nigeria shot wide and put South Africa’s defence line on high alert.
Bafana Bafana was able to hold down their lines against the Super Eagles which lead to a goalless first half.

Tides changed when South Africa took the lead in the 54thminute with a brilliant header from Tokelo Rantie making it 1-0 against Nigeria.
South Africa continued to play possession football for most of the second half looking to double they score on the score board against Nigeria. After an excellent play from South Africa, the ball hit the cross bar of the Nigerian goal post for the second time in the game with an attempt from Themba Zwane.

Bafana Bafana got their 2nd goal of the match with a touch from Percy Tau in the 82nd minute to clinch a victory against the Super Eagles for the first time in 10 competitive games.
